In recent weeks there has been talk of ending the EU’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels, but above all to tackle the climate crisis with the new REPowerEU Plan. From the LIFE ECODIGESTION 2.0 project we are committed to this ecological transition and we promote energy efficiency with a completely green energy source such as biogas.

One of the key elements of this European plan is saving energy. In its proposal, the Commission stresses efficiency measures that in the long term will lower the cost of bills, to which we should add the high ecosystemic cost generated by the use of non-renewable and polluting energy. Therefore, from LIFE ECODIGESTION 2.0 we will implement a biogas technology on demand, where the energy produced will be just enough to carry out the proper operation, performance and process that requires it. In addition, within our specific objectives, we highlight the increase of up to 14% in biogas production with the same amount of added cosubstrate by means of the most favourable dosing of waste and mixtures, maintaining the stability of the system.

Another REPowerEU approach announces mentions accelerating the rollout of renewables, because thanks to them we will shape the future of our planet and life on earth as we know it. The Commission proposes an increase of 40%-45% under the Fit for 55 proposals by 2030. With the help of digitalisation and LIFE ECODIGESTION 2.0 technology, biogas will be made a reliable energy source to cover industrial energy demand.

One of the most important advantages of successfully implementing and replicating a project like LIFE ECODIGESTION 2.0, aligned with this European plan, is the reduction of greenhouse gases. The European Climate Law and legally binding climate commitments aim to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. According to calculations by the LIFE ECODIGESTION2.0 technical team, emission reductions with this technology can be up to 24,343 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (CO2-eq)/year and other acid rain promoting gases, such as SO4 and NOX, by 8,977 kg and 6,465 kg per year.

Renewable energies, energy efficiency and energy sources such as biogas are here to stay. From our project, we will continue to move forward to respond to the challenges we face through technology. These two global emergencies are adversities but represent opportunities to speed up the necessary green and digital transformation.
