• A total of 6 innovative projects in sustainable wastewater management were presented.
• Innovation is presented as a possible solution to water stress in Spain.
LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0 has been presented in the webinar “Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Wastewater Management”, which has been highlighted by the participation of experts in the field of sustainable wastewater treatment.
The event was organised by LIFE-3E, and was attended by more than 80 participants interested in the latest innovations and strategies for sustainable urban wastewater management and sustainable energy generation.
LIFE Ecodigestion 2.0 has participated together with 5 innovative projects: LIFE ZERO WASTE WATER, LIFE RENATURWAT, LIFE INTEXT and LIFE CONQUER. As Javier Rioyo, Operations and Environmental Protection Manager at MARE, commented, one of the main current challenges in Spain is the water shortage due to the recurrent drought and climate change: therefore, water management is a key element and the future lies in finding a sustainable solution.
Juanma Revuelta, CEO of the Finnova Foundation, presented LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0 starting with an analysis of the current legal and financial framework, and emphasising the strategies for scaling up projects funded by the European Union. Pau Granell, head of the Quart Benàger WWTP, shared his technical experience in the efficient implementation of technologies for organic waste digestion and biogas generation and explained the status of the project and its progress. Lola Bordás, CMO of marketing of the Finnova Foundation, presented methodologies for effective dissemination aimed at different groups, highlighting the communication, synergies and participation activities carried out by the project.
“The integration of innovations in wastewater management is crucial for our sustainable future. With this type of projects we try to open ways for an effective transition towards cleaner and more efficient technologies, not only in Europe but also in Latin America. Today is the time to shape the environmental management of tomorrow”, Revuelta emphasised.
This event has been an important moment in the promotion of innovative and sustainable technologies in wastewater treatment, marking a step forward towards a greener and more sustainable future.
About LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0
LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0 is a pilot demonstration project, funded by LIFE Programme and with a budget of more than 970,000 EUR, which generates biogas in sewage treatment plant digesters by mixing putrescible organic waste (slurry, poultry, organic fractions, MSW, horeca, etc.), thus transforming sewage sludge into green energy through technology. The initiative led by Global Omnium, (Spain), in collaboration with the Finnova Foundation (Belgium) and Águas do Centro Litoral (Portugal) aims to become the most versatile digestion control tool on the market, achieving environmental and economic benefits through the production of biogas by making optimal use of waste. Thanks to this technology, it favours the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the use of sewage sludge generated in wastewater treatment processes, thus achieving a positive impact on the environment. This programme is easily scalable with other funds such as FEDER, NextGenerationEU or RePowerEU.
