Brussels, 20.07.2021 – On 20 July 2021 (from 4.00 to 5.00 pm CET), the Public Private Partnerships for Green City Solutions webinar, held by World Forum for Democracy and the Council of Europe, addressed the different approaches taken by cities to accomplish climate goals. In addition, speakers also discussed the challenges and benefits related to public-private partnerships, highlighted the role of innovative green finance strategies and identified the ways to boost transparency, citizen’s participation and the ability to respond.

LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0 project was described as a success story in terms of forging public-private partnerships to achieve greener cities. Thanks to a digital control system, organic wastes are automatically pumped into anaerobic wastewater sludge digesters, whereby the production of on-demand biogas as a renewable energy is maximised.

LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0 aims at turning biogas into a reliable source of green energy to meet the industrial demand of energy in order to comply with the EU’s target to achieve at least 27% of energy from renewable sources by 2030. This system is of special interest to Europe, as there are 18,000 wastewater treatment plants which account for 0.8% of all energy consumption.
