Brussels, November 26, 2021 – The European Week for Waste Reduction will be held this year from Saturday 20 to Sunday, putting the focus on promoting the 3Rs: Reducing the consumption, Reusing products and materials, and Recycling of waste.
LIFE Ecodigestion 2.0 joins this week in order to highlight our project’s commitment to circular economy and the 3Rs rule: reduce, reuse and recycle. LIFE Ecodigestion 2.0 introduces a digital automatic control system for the dosage of organic waste in anaerobic digesters for WWTPs (Wastewater Treatment Plants) that maximizes the production of on-demand biogas as a renewable energy. Favored by circular economy and a maximum optimization of organic waste, it is feasible to generate clean green energy.
The pilot project is expected to last for four years (2020-2024), led by Global Omnium Environment (Spain) and in partnership with the Finnovaregio Foundation (Belgium) and Águas do Centro Litoral (Portugal). The production of biogas in order to cover energy demand and reduce the amount of waste in landfills contributes to the compliance with the European Landfill Directive.
